Message Here is my take on various oil filters:

If you can manage to find some old stock of the 60U filter, then you are in good shape. A handful of dealers still have them lying around, but you have to make sure that you are actually getting the 60U filters and not the new ones which have superceded it and will show up in a p/n search.

From what I understand, the Nippon filter is an exact replica of the 60U filter.

The WIX filter has a slightly different design, but the filtering element and the flow characteristics are pretty much identical to the 60U. It is very easy to get locally, and I have been using them with no problems for the past year.

Mobil 1, Bosch, K&N - These are all reputed to be pretty good filters, but I have not had any personal experience with them.

Purolator - I've had no experience with their oil filters, but my experience with their air filters left me with the impression that they are make a decent product for most common applications, but not really suitable for high-end applications which require very specific tolerances. In other words, better than Fram, but not really all that great. I'd use it on my Ford, but not on my Nissan.

Fram is NOT good. Whenever I used a Fram filter in the past, it would mess with my oil pressure levels (according to the stock gauge), sending them higher than normal. I'm guessing this has something to do with the flow characteristics of the filter. Fram has also been known to have poor quality control in past years as well.

There used to be a nice post where someone had cut up a bunch of popular filters and compared them all, but unfortunately I can't seem to find it. (I thought that I had it bookmarked??) You might be able to find it using search, but I doubt if the pictures still work.
